About

About Us

Our Mission

Island Shakespeare Festival draws upon the timeless exploration of the human spirit inherent to classical theatre to reflect, renew, and redefine the diversity of our shared experience through performances accessible to all.

Our Vision

Island Shakespeare Festival believes that art should be for everyone regardless of the ability to pay. By providing “Pay What You Will” classical productions in innovative and compelling ways, we intend to ignite the power of theatre to illuminate, inspire, and foster our ability to live, locally and globally, in connection to each other.

We believe in demystifying the language of the classics through clarity of text, physicality, and commitment to the story, so they become alive—relevant—raw—visceral—to the widest possible audience. These gatherings of audience and artists bring classical texts alive and add immeasurably to the quality of life in our regional community. The classics remain classic because they express the humanity that exists across boarders and generations. They are part of civilization. And they need to be shared.

Our Values

At Island Shakespeare Festival, the center of everything we do is reflected in our values. We believe in:

Excellence We consistently seek to excel in the work we do. Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is then not an act, but a habit.”

Inclusivity
We welcome and embrace a diversity of cultures, people and ideas from our local and global communities, that enriches both our insights on stage and our relationship with each other.

Financial Well-being
We continue to build a foundation of financial health and sustainability.

Environmental Sensibility
We choose to make responsible choices to support environmental health for our community as well as the sustainability of our planet.
