Langley – Village by the Sea

This content was prepared by Whidbey Life Magazine (link) Read WLM in print or online for comprehensive and current features, blogs and news concerning Whidbey Island arts & culture and island living!

For those who have not yet visited Langley, on Washington state's Whidbey Island, prepare to be enchanted! The first stage of the adventure is a 15-minute ferry crossing from Mukilteo (if approaching from south of the island), or a hair-raising two-lane bridge spanning three islands (for visitors arriving from points north). Either way, it's a beautiful introduction to Whidbey. Langley is on the southern end of Whidbey Island, and easily accessible, just 45 minutes north of Seattle (including the ferry crossing), or 1½ hours from Vancouver BC - a convenient side trip for virtually anyone visiting the Pacific Northwest. Perched on a bluff overlooking Saratoga Passage with the Cascade Mountains as a backdrop, Langley is home to a unique and lively artistic community. Affectionately referred to as the “Village by the Sea”, this thriving artists’ haven overlooking the spring feeding grounds of migrating gray whales and feeding grounds of resident and migrant orca (killer) whales, is where Island Shakespeare Festival makes its home. There is always something wonderful to see, hear, taste or experience in Langley, the Village by the Sea!
